Professional, knowledgable, responsive, thoughtful, all of these describe the folks from Case who helped us realize our kitchen. In the years before retiring I dreamed of having a kitchen with lots of space to store things and where I could indulge my love for cooking. We also wanted to revamp and add a pet shower to our laundry room so that our aging great dane would not need to climb stairs for his showers.
We spent a year researching before deciding on someone we could trust to guide us through this process. We chose Case and they were absolutely the right choice! From our team of architects, Susan, Dave and Grace, to the workmen in our home daily for three months they were all polite, courteous and helpful. When we were unsure of best choices they provided the information needed and helped guide us to make the best choice.
The Project Manager, Bruce, was prompt and responsive when we had questions. He kept us informed with weekly meetings and email updates. We are already thinking about our next remodeling project and the folks at Case will be the first people we call when we are ready to move ahead with it.

One of the worst companies I have ever experienced. Customer service is a key component to a successful business. This company is lacking it 100%. The person who came to my home was coming to measure windows and ended up spending half a day in my home talking non-stop about other things that were irrelevant to his purpose for being in my home. He informed me he would get back to me in a couple of days with a quote.
Yesterday was 2 weeks from when he left and I still heard nothing from him. not even a call to tell me he was working on my quote. How can a quote possibly take more than 2 weeks? So, you just don't call your customer to keep them informed? He finally called to tell me he could only install some items in PVC. I specifically told him I wanted NO PVC.
I am environmentally conscious and health conscious. No, sorry PVC is extremely bad for both. He informed me he could not provide wood frames which I found elsewhere with the next company. I had no intention of using this company even if they provided the material I wanted after receiving such poor customer service and a "I don't care about your business attitude".
I contacted another company who was referred to me. They arrived on a Friday and within one hour left my home with measurements. They came back to me within 2 days and told me they have everything I need and gave me the quote. That is good customer service.

I engaged case for the first an only time several years ago for an expansion of my kitchen. We planned everything well in Advance and case completed the work generally on time. This was refreshing after my experience with many other contractors over the years. However my conclusion is beyond completing the work on time they are not worth the money because their follow up is actually terrible.
We noticed numerous small items like poorly hung cabinet doors. Asking them to come by and fix something is useless since they either deny or deflect. I got over most of these minor nuisances over the years by having my handyman fix much of their work. However it regularly also rains in my kitchen now and I also have to redo the roof. If I have to redo all of these items that they installed then why pay a premium for their service. I wouldn't recommend them.

Exceeded our expectations, Highly recommend! Case Design and the entire staff were a pleasure to work with on our kitchen remodel. Our kitchen was completely gutted, the layout reconfigured, and in the process included several significant challenges for the trades. From our initial contact with Case right through to the very end of the project, Case's professionalism, communication, reliability, and attention detail, were unsurpassed. Allie Mann, our designer, helped us through every step of the process from initial concept to a final spectacular, mid-century modern kitchen in keeping with the style of the rest of our home. We could not be happier with the Case team and their process. A very special thank you to Jim, Allie, Bruce and Roberto.

Looks like their "handyman" arm Fred home improvement no longer services the folks East of the River in SE. I've used them in the past. Case is known, to me, for how they educate their clients. Maybe I missed why they've pulled out of my area in SE Washington DC. (2 stars for previous work done in my bathroom and installation of dishwasher).

Are there enough adjectives to describe my recent experience with Case Design? Great, professional, experienced, flexible, courteous, timely, talented - I could go on and on - but if you're looking for a company to design and build your new bathroom, my whole-hearted recommendation starts here! My craftsman was the best and even the smallest detail was not overlooked. Stop shopping around and go with Case - as with most things, you get what you pay for!

I have worked with Case design for many years and the team has always been courteous, responsive and professional. The design team is extremely knowledgeable and hands on to ensure clients get the style and function best suited for their own individual needs. Having worked especially close with April, Susan, David and the rest of the team on multiple projects Im extremely confident in recommending Case design for any budget. From start to finish Case has always impressed me with the level of service, attention to detail, and amazing results. I highly recommend Case design.

My favorite thing about Case Design is that you can count on a team of experts to handle your project and resolve anything that may come up. Their customer service is excellent - professional and courteous. We hired Case for a deck demo / re-built project which turned out beautiful! We also hired the Fred division of this company for smaller jobs where expertise was a must. Highly recommend them!

I found the Case architect and construction manager for my remodel/addition project to both be subpar. The architect was uninterested in quality, detail or telling the truth. Flooring was mismatched, appliances were poorly arranged and some features were changed without prior discussion- and then lied about. The construction manager was extremely unprofessional and rude.
I didn't realize how bad this experience was until recently, when I used another small design/build firm for another project. Night and day. This company also tried to rectify a few of the gross mistakes made by Case - without additional charge! The most striking difference was that this company cared and took pride in their work. It wasn't right unless it was perfect-- this was their approach, not mine!
Case couldn't care less after the contract was signed. You might luck out with Case - some people do. But it's a gamble. And money, not professional pride, is the only driving force for Case.

Case Design was our pick out of three companies we interviewed. This has been a major project for us and, we are happy that we chose Case Design to execute it. We started with Elle and her no-nonsense "let's not reinvent the wheel" approach to Allie's amazing style and focus, Jason's mad carpenter skills, and Bruce's well organized plan of action and updates.
Not to mention, they have a long list of top notch contractors used to pull off this fabulous basement makeover. We recommend Case Design and would use them again in a heartbeat.

The staff at Case - from the project developer, Victor, the designer, Carolyn, the project manager, Tom, and the craftsman, Allan, were exceptional. We had a semi-remodeled bath, a fully remodeled bath, and a wall removed and sliding doors installed to improve a closet - all work was extraordinary. Not only that, the staff were terrific to work with.
Our house is very small and over 80 years old, yet Carolyn's designs were clean, beautiful, practical, and were suitable for our colonial. Victor, Tom, and Allan made sure that all work was up to the highest standards. I wouldn't hesitate to call on Case again.

Case Design did an outstanding job remodeling the outdated bathroom in my Penn Quarter condo. John Audet and Carolyn Elleman provided excellent design and materials advice at the outset. Edwin Calderon was a joy to work with while the work was carried out, doing everything possible to minimize the disruption. Tom Craze oversaw the remodel, frequently visiting the condo to check and make suggestions. I am thrilled with the result!

My husband and I spent months looking for a great design and build firm in the DC area to redo our small condo kitchen. After interviewing a number of places, we found ourselves most comfortable with the team at Case Design in DC. Specifically, Project developer, David Waguespack, his designer, Carolyn Elleman, project manager, Stefan Eising, and. carpenter, Francisco were all wonderful to work with.
From the initial conversations through the design process, finish selection, demo, and complete reno, the team was knowledgeable and very considerate of our time, wishes, and needs. I very much recommend this team if you are considering a renovation! They may be slightly more expensive than other options in the area, but it was well worth how at-ease I felt knowing that everything would be done correctly. THANKS!

Case Design & Remodeling is one of the area's best companies for home remodeling and renovation. Customer satisfaction is a top priority. As a subcontractor, we have had the pleasure of working with multiple project managers along with several sales representatives, all of which are very professional and courteous. They are detail oriented and always respond in a timely manner. I would highly recommend this company to anyone looking to update or remodel their home.

CASE Design and Dave Vogt were an amazing team. Our family has a 'vintage' 1920 craftsman house in a historic district of Washington DC. We were looking to make a large family room/kitchen and 2nd floor extension to our home, add a couple of bedrooms, a full bath, move a 1/2 bath and get an all new kitchen (ours was original!) and family room. Our. lot was small, required a variance for the design we wanted (approved!) and we had several other constraints, but we ended up with a great design that suits our family really well - and it's a great blend of our historic house and modern style living. The starting process was nice - Dave did three initial floorplan sketches to start us off, and.

Terrible terrible. Spent a $1000 for design work. Selected the least expensive option. Had a meeting for the cost of the project and the number was higher than the top range they initially gave me! I spoke with the owner, Larry, and he assured me he would look into it and get back to me. Have never heard anything. Just terrible!

If I could give them 0 stars, I would. Every time I go into my master bath and look at the work they did years ago I still get mad. I hope they've gotten better. They redid our master bath. The work was substandard and started falling apart soon after they installed it. Good luck to anyone else that uses them.

I can not comment on Case's actual work. We only received designs from them, no work was ever started. Our issue was wasting 8 weeks to get designs done and then being CASE doesn't work with mortgage company insurance payments ever. Otherwise, we would have CASE do our kitchen. I will say they act professionally in all communications unlike an absolutely demented company we hired after them.

Our home remodel is complete and we are beyond happy with the work done by Case. We loved working with the design team who helped us transform our small condo's 80s era bathroom and kitchen into something open and modern. Neil, Alexandria and Scott were super helpful and responsive throughout the design process. Going to Case's showroom was easy and helped us visualize everything with the help of their design staff.
Our project manager, Stefan, was similarly great. We were able to do weekly check ins and he kept my husband and I on task and let us know of any problems. Stefan and Brian, who did most of the work on our condo, were in touch via email and text throughout the project. We live in a small condo building with old pipes and old everything. They dealt with small problems with ease and were always willing to go the extra mile to make things easier for us.
Case was able to complete a big remodel in our small space on budget and a week ahead of schedule. I highly recommend Case if you're a working professional and want to do a remodel without much fuss/difficulty. The quality of work is top notch and we're so happy Case was able to give us the kitchen and bathroom we've been dreaming of (and pinterest-ing)!

The quality of the workmanship was of a decent standard. The project manager was not very accommodation at all and nickle and dimed me over $300 in a near $25,000 budget. We had a bathroom renovated and reached out to Case Design (note the Design). Our townhouse in Bethesda is SMALL and we wanted some expertise to maximize space. The vanity that turned up was bigger that we had, the toilet we ordered failed to arrive and we were given another option (no cost) but what turned up was a third toilet which was not what we ordered.
The vanity counter top was cut too big. a three week job became over 6 weeks. Again I cannot fault the actually builders / craftsmen but the sales / project guys left a nasty taste in my mouth and i wont be recommended them to anyone USE WITH CAUTION

CASE Design, with Dave Vogt (architect) and Kevin Morissey (PM), renovated our 1920s 4-square. We blew off the back of the house on the main level and one level above, extended by 10 feet and absorbed the back 8 feet into a new design. This included two new bedrooms, 1.5 new full baths, a family room addition and a new kitchen/breakfast room. It could not have been a better experience.
I lived through it (in the house!) without a kitchen for several months, a 6 month old and a 2 year old for the whole thing, minus 2 weeks. Our home is beautiful, and the process, costs etc. were what we anticipated. We got a zoning variance, went through the Historic Cleveland Park process and got the design we wanted. I've done the non-Design/Build before, and that was a horrible experience.
I will never go back. CASE was awesome. As follow up, they had to come back over the last couple years to look at one toilet, and they were immediate and responsive. For such a big job, that's amazing that it's all there was.

Yelp's software is hiding my first review. So I will try another one (Yelp will probably hide this one too but I will try). I kind of feel bad about Case /Fred since it seems like the business is being adversely affected by the poor work of the project managers. As most of the other reviewers mentioned, most of the craftsmen, electricians, plumbers, etc. do a great job, work hard and take pride (as they should) in their work.
I have only had one problem with one of their carpenters who decided not to use a level to install my shower pan. I will not use Case / Fred again due to their project managers.

We hired Case Design/Fred to open a wall in our condo's kitchen and install a small bar made of pine. Before I continue, let me say that both craftsmen, electrician and construction, were amazing. Super-friendly and efficient and we are now pretty much happy with the end result. Our main problem was with the person who came to do the walk-through.
He was not thorough. He neglected to tell the craftsman that we were going to stain the wood, so white wood filler was used where the screws fastened the wood to the support. Trusting their expertise, I assumed that the filler used was the right kind and proceeded with the staining. However, when I went to stain the wood, the white putty would not take stain and it looked terrible.
The craftsman had to come out a second time a week later and remove the filler and replace it with wood-colored putty, then sand it flat. After a few more applications of the stain, it eventually looked better. It just now looks a bit uneven around the filled screw holes. This wouldn't have been a problem had the craftsman been instructed properly. So, if you decide to hire them, be prepared to listen CAREFULLY to the instructions given to the craftsmen and make sure they are correct before leaving to let them work.

I had Case do some work for me a couple years ago. They were expensive, but got the initial job done. I had then run a dryer vent from the inside of my house to the outside. That part went OK. My AC maintenance guy had to come out about a year later because the heat pump motor burned up. When he opened the casing it was completely loaded with dryer lint.
Case had vented the dryer right in front of my heat pump so all the lint was blowing straight into it. My AC guy told me that helped shorten the life of my unit. I was getting a bid on some other work and I told Tom Dodd what had happened. He agreed they would come and make that adjustment. I didn't ask them to pay for my AC motor. Just to redirect the vent away from the unit.
I would think a very easy fix. Their bid for the new work was almost 3x's the other bids, so did not get the job. I have sent 4 emails to Case over the last month asking them to make this simple change that they had already agreed to do. My new heat pump already is filling up with the same lint. Obviously whoever decided to vent the unit directly onto a heat pump did not think through the consequences.
All I asked numerous times (and they agreed when there was other business on the line) was a simple adjustment. When a service business doesn't return phone calls when there is a really small problem with their work I don't think that's someone you want to do business with. What will they do when there is a big problem? I sent another email yesterday morning telling my contact if I did not hear back from them I would start letting others know they don't keep their word and ignore you when there is a problem.
I have not heard back. Obviously they don't really care what their customers say about them either. Take your business elsewhere. They do not take care of their problems, even after committing to do so.

We had our kitchen and powder room remodeled by Case Design. We are absolutely pleased with their work. Customer Service is excellent! The craftsmen, project manager and designer we worked with were all very professional and truly cared about their client's needs. We ran into some issues that we didn't expect and Case Design was there to support and made sure that it was resolved professionally. Our experience with Case Design has been an absolute pleasure. They set high standards and their workmanship is outstanding. We highly recommend!

We used Case for a major renovation and addition, and have been very pleased through the entire process - the architect helped us develop a design that would not only meet our space requirements but come in under our budget; the project manager was great in keeping the entire project moving on time (and helping up plan ahead, as we were living in the house with 1 yr old twins during the entire construction process, and I was working from home during that time); and the construction team was neat, friendly and responsive to our questions. We have recommended Case to numerous friends, who have then gone on to become satisfied customers as well.

Beware! I had one small project completed and called to have a second, 2 part project completed, they charged an astronomical rate for a simple job. The problem was they did not come with the parts needed even though they had looked at the job before. I paid over 100. per hour for their trip to home depot, and then I paid double for parts (but was never alowed to see a reciept, this was in accounting and unavailable).
My big mistake was I scheduled another project before seeing the ridiculous charges. I had some plumbing items to handle and of them all I paid almost $300 to reset a toilet that took less than 30 mins, and the other plumbing items I never heard back on until they charged my credit card, by this point they were not doing anymore work. They do a decent job, just expect to be in the dark about costs and pay double or more of what you can find elsewhere.
