We called on Phil T. from Cools Custom to quote our duplex rental remodel and we have never called anyone else for anything else since. Having never used a general contractor before we were nervous and skeptical. But Phil T./Cools Custom, from day-1, was the solution we were hoping for. Our remodel was perfect, as ordered, and on time. a And to this day, we call Cools Custom first with any construction, plumbing, electrical, hardscape needs. for anything that we need done to our properties.
As they say - "you get what you pay for." we understand that and truly believe we get our moneys-worth with Cools Custom. Worry free from the start of a project and beyond completion with excellent warranty work, if needed, no questions asked. Thank You Cools Custom and Phil T. for a job very well done! Ray&Betty Y. We continue to be amazed at how efficient Cools Custom Remodeling operates as a builder/ remodeler, even after a year since our fantastic rental remodel with Cools Custom, their level of service and responsiveness is stellar.
Even with issues not related to our remodel they have turned into our "go-to" solution to any and everything related to home repair and maintenance. Even our tenants have been totally impressed with Cool Customs proactive coordination of time schedules and property access to minimize the impact on our tenants and their lives. We feel very fortunate to have discovered Cools Custom Remodeling for our original remodel which turned out perfectly, now years later, continues to be the nicest property on the block, largely due to Cools Customs fine craftsmanship in construction and design.
We now confidently know there is always a solution to any and all issues that arise with our rental properties thanks to Cools Custom Remodeling and their team of professional. Thoroughly satisfied customer Ray&Betty Y.once again we have had to do some home improvements and called on Cools Custom to do the project, and once again an amazing and efficient job well done! Phil, Jason and Team did a beautiful and complex door installation for us and it turned out incredible. Thanks a million guys! ray&betty

We wished we had used Cool's Custom Remodeling the first time we remodeled our bathroom. The grout work was poorly done and we needed an experienced professional to repair it. Cool's Custom to the rescue! I was extremely pleased with the quality of work and attention to detail by Jason. He is a very knowledgeable contractor and I couldn't be happier with his workmanship. I highly recommend Jason and the team at Cool's Custom Remodeling.

Hired these folks to handle some reconstruction work from two major leaks in both of our bathrooms. This team was extra patient as we were awaiting for inspections to complete which were stalled due to COVID (nothing related to Cools). After the team patiently waited 5 months, we finally got the inspections completed and the go ahead to start the work.
Their scope of work was a major reconstruction of one of our bathrooms (drywall, texture, tile, baseboards, reinstall shower doors, painted, trim, the whole lot), and paint, trim and a light fixture in our guest bathroom. Not only did everything turn out amazing, but it was all completed in less than a week and a half! Out of the numerous companies and teams we had to deal with during this reconstruction, the Cools team was by far the easiest and most responsive! Jason was awesome!
He was always on top of it and remained transparent throughout the process (unheard of in the construction world!). I never had to chase him - ever! His team was just as great - Antonio and Gabriel were easy to work with, even when I was being a perfectionist. One other thing worth mentioning, since we were going through homeowners insurance, we had an uphill battle finding someone to do the work within the allotted budget. Cools was flexible and worked within the constraints of insurance. Jason even went to bat for us directly with the insurance company. So thankful! The work speaks for itself and we are beyond pleased. Cools Custom will be our new go-to guys for any of our home construction needs.

We are very happy we chose Cools Custom for our remodeling project. Our project was to completely remodel the interior of our three bedroom two bath townhouse. Cools did a fantastic job of completing the project on schedule and with high quality. We appreciate the professionalism. Jason was our project manager and we enjoyed working with him. He is available when you need him, pleasant to work with, professional and patient.
He understands the stress the family is going through and is very accommodating. Phil worked with us to fully scope the project and was available at all times to help us choose the right design and items. The sub-contractors they brought along - carpenters, plumbers, electricians, painters, flooring contractor - were very good. Overall, an enjoyable experience.
It is surprising to hear that about contractors in general but it is true in this case. Their quotes are slightly on the expensive side but your get what you pay for - professionalism, higher quality work, on time completion and lower stress for you as a customer. Highly recommend.

Jason and the team did a fantastic job on my shower refresh project. The base pan in the shower cracked and was sending water underneath everytime you stepped on it. Jason ripped out the old base pan, tile, and windows. The updated version of all those pieces are beautiful to look at and now showering is a much better experience. It was a much needed fix/improvement. I'll be calling them back to add a window to my other bathroom and higher vanity and new sinks to the master bathroom. I'd highly recommend these guys!

We first became associated with Cool's Custom 29 years ago when we were remodeling our kitchen and Cool's was used as a sub for our contractor. When our contractor abruptly went out of business in the middle of our job, Jay and his team jumped in and completed our kitchen. We have used Cool's Custom many times since then for a number of different remodeling projects, including a downstairs renovation with another full kitchen remodel 4 years ago. Jay's team, including his son Jason, were always prompt, courteous, knowledgeable and on the job when they said they would be there.
Most recently, I had a problem with one of my 4+ year old kitchen appliances (installed during the last kitchen remodel) and Jay helped me navigate the warranty company and service repairs. We have referred many of our neighbors to Cool's Custom and they have also been happy with the outcome. You may find contractors who are lower in cost, but I can assure you, the quality of service you will get from Cool's Custom outweighs any cost differences.

If you're a homeowner and have ever worked with a contractor, then you know how rare it is to find a company whose service meets or exceeds your expectations. To that end, I highly recommend Cools Custom, a contractor we've been working with to remodel our 2 bathrooms. The owner is Jay Cool, and here is what made our experience with him and his company so great. 1) The vanity counter top we had selected didn't quite match the color of the top that was delivered. Jay stepped in and worked as our champion with all the vendors to ensure the issue was resolved to our satisfaction.
He always insist everything be done to our satisfaction. 2) His talented crew is personable, professional, and courteous (plumber, tile person, framers, project manager, etc.). 3) They are the only contractors I have ever worked with who are actually responsive on email and text messages. 4) They really have our best interests in mind; always setting our expectations, and offering things to fix and address that we never considered. 5) They were very flexible and accommodating, happy to help us as we occasionally added extra requests and work to the project. 6) They took great care of our home as they worked, and we were completely comfortable having them in our home.
We enjoyed working with them and appreciated the quality of their work so much that we will continue to work with hem on projects for the exterior of our home as well (roof, siding, stone-work, etc.).

We have remodeled a kitchen, laundry room and three bathrooms over a period of a decade with Cool's Custom. We wouldn't use anyone else. Cool's has also served us in several home maintenance projects, to our utmost satisfaction. The crew, specializing in tile work, is excellent. Jason Cool is timely in responding and on top of our requests when we contact him for anything. Very satisfied with Cool's Custom!

Cool's Custom This project involved a total kitchen makeover and expansion, conversion of a small den/tv room, addition of sliding glass doorway (master bedroom), expansion of existing bedroom closets, new tile floor in the bathroom & tv room, refinishing hardwood floors and painting throughout. Original concept included expansion of the master bedroom to incorporate a half bathroom, but this was discarded due to cost.
I moved out for six months (!) while the majority of the (re-)construction was in progress. This was my first (AND ONLY) remodel, so my goal was to get it all done in one shot. Phil T was outstanding, easy to work with, enthusiastic, extremely responsive, experienced, fair and direct. He even dropped by unannounced one Saturday, just to check on progress, and ended up spending an hour discussing options for the remainder of the project.
He knows what he's doing, or finds out quickly and responds. Jason is one of the nicest service people I've ever worked with, very low key, easy to talk with, aims to please. I don't think he had the experience with this scope of project-or maybe just the scope of This Project specifically-which sometimes left questions unanswered for longer than I would've liked, and several "oops, forgot about that" moments.
He was not as familiar with the details as Phil (who worked with me as the initial contact with Cool's) and he often had to say "I don't know, I'll get back to you, " on what seemed like fairly standard questions, some of which I had to re-ask in order to get answers. The subcontractors all did outstanding work, no issues with workmanship. There was some miscommunication of where and how and what, with questions not specified in the plans or proposal, but everything was eventually rectified.
I did feel, as other reviewers have stated, there was a lot of "we will finish X today, can you have a check for us tomorrow?" without an intermediate step of meeting with someone to confirm that everything was complete & correct on that step. The basic project was completed close to budget, with one minor unforeseen addition (floor underneath carpeting needed replacement in one spot).
The projected three month timeline was unreasonable, in hindsight; with delays on several fronts, some my fault, not so with others. Appliances were ordered well in advance, but delivery for some was delayed (standard size wine cooler did not fit the space it was intended for and had to be replaced); second order of floor tiles was (twice) delayed/discontinued/eventually completed; bathroom sink took a long time to receive, delaying completion of that part of the project; ordering closet doors with Cool's recommended vendor was an ordeal.
Final 10% of the project seemed to take forever. Never having remodeled.anything.before, and occasionally not knowing what questions to ask/answers to give, nor understanding the flow/organization of the project delayed some of my decisions/purchases; one of my frustrations was not having a detailed timeline or an expected order of completion for more than one or two steps at a time. Knowing that would have likely sped up the project. Looking back now, a year from the start of the project, I rate the process a moderate success, and the final product a great success.
I can only point to minor issues on the house that didn't turn out as expected, and a few (minor) things I would have done differently had I known then what I know now, but for the vast majority everything turned out satisfactory and more.

We came home from vacation last April and noticed some dark spots on the hardwood floor in our master bedroom.near the wall shared with the master shower.not good. After some initial exploration, we found that a malfunctioning shower valve had been leaking into the wall cavity for about 5 years - lots of mold, rotted studs, subfloor issues, a shower that needed to be completely replaced, along with hardwood flooring in the bedroom.
You would think that it would be relatively easy to find a contractor to do this work, but it's not. Many of the people we contacted just said, "no, we don't do water damage." Others thought that the job was too small. Others would do it, but wouldn't give a firm quote and wanted to charge an outrageous "exploration" fee. Enter Cools Custom Remodeling.
From the start, they worked to get our business and treated it as a partnership. Yes, they admitted it was a smaller job for them, but they never made us feel that it was any less important. We had an open line of communication and we always knew where things stood. We had a lot of stops, starts, and delays on the job as we were trying to match specific tile (some of it custom-made) and flooring (and did I mention that we're sort of super-picky?).
They hung in there. If we weren't 100% satisfied with something, they came back and worked on it until we were. We moved back into our master suite last weekend and the whole thing looks beautiful - just like the disaster never happened. Cools Custom gave us all you can ask for in a contractor: fair prices, good communication, quality workmanship, and willingness to meet expectations. I would recommend them for any job, large or small.

I can't say enough good things about Cools. They did a complete remodel of our home including kitchen, bath, laundry room, fireplace, and all the painting and detail work. They were outstanding at every step. Professional and trustworthy, I would use them again and glad to rate them as a 5 star company!

Cools Custom did a kitchen and bathroom remodel for us in our house in Fremont. Dealing with Jay and Jason made the process very stress-free. They were very accommodating and very helpful in decisions with design, selecting material, recommendations and answered all questions and concerns we had. The work performed was top notch with total craftmanship.
From flooring, tilework, cabinetry, countertop, paint, sun tunnels, plumbing, installing appliances, electrical. everything was 5 star. No messes were left with everything cleaned up and picked up at the end of their work day. The final product blew me away. Now we have a kitchen and bathroom that is beautiful and added some major value to the house. I would highly recommend Cool's Custom for your upcoming remodel job.

Cools Custom did a Bathroom Remodel for me at my house in Almaden Valley San Jose, CA! The bathroom came out absolutely gorgeous! It reminds me of a 5 Star Hotel bathroom! They were very professional, the workmanship was second to none, the job site was always clean, and they were always on time. The one time they we're going to be a little late, they called beforehand and communicated with me. Jay communicated with me frequently, and I was very happy with his professionalism! I highly recommend them!

This company is a joke. Jay Cool does not perform as a general contractor should. His subs are hit and miss and the weekly phone call from the office to make you pay so they can hit payroll is alarming. They screwed up a simple bathroom so many times, I should have fired them. The tiles on the floor and the shower were done wrong so had to be re-done.
The plumber had such an attitude and screwed up the plumbing in my shower so bad then insulted my son and I had to kick him out of my house. This company is a joke. Do not hire them under any circumstances. Not only are they incompetent, they are dishonest and the results are far less that satisfactory. I had to finish the job which was far less than satisfactory to get them out of my house as I was so angry.
Now he is trying to say I was not a customer. I am very SURE he remembers me. Add to the list that he is a liar. Avoid him at all costs. The people on Yelp who recommend him must be paid or are relatives.

Pros: Job is acceptable although not great. Able to follow the schedule. Willing to follow up with the warranted fixes. Cons: Could face significant over-charge if there is anything extra found beyond the original contract. It is ok to use this contractor if everything is so obvious and well defined which can all be covered on the agreement. However, if you have anything that could possibly be hidden, especially when there is any electrical or framing work involved, better be prepared with the overcharge. There could be lots of stress and negotiations.

We hired Cool's Custom Remodeling for our kitchen remodeling early this year. During the first and only time we met with Jay Cool, we were told the remodeling should be very easy and could be completed in about 2 months. However, it turned out that the project became very complicated and took more than 6 months. A few days after the project took off, the company started to ask for more money because they believed they underestimated the scope of work.
Over the course of the project, they even asked for more money for re-do works even though those works were completely due to their own mistakes. Another frustrating thing is that this company has no quality control of their projects, and no project manager oversees the whole project. They do have Jason Cool making work schedules, which is the only reason that I gave the company more than one star.
But the workers are being pushed too hard, often having multiple jobs in one day, so they often rush to finish one in order to get to the next one in time. So we had to spend a lot of time watching over our project to ensure that it would not be too late before the mistakes were caught. Overall, if you have other options, do not hire this company. If you have no other choice, you should have your contract written as detailed as possible.

I recently had Cool's Custom Remodeling perform work at my home. They did tile work in the kitchen, sheetrock work and painting throughout. In addition, they did concrete work in the patio. The owner Jay is awesome to work with. He has a lot of knowledge of remodeling and offered suggestion to make the remodeling better. His quotes were either the number I had in mind or within a couple of hundred dollars of my number.
I thought his quote numbers were realistic. Each of his staff members that did the work did an excellent job. The tile work on the backsplash and floor were meticulous done-true craftsmanship. The Sheetrock work and painting were done efficiently and with no mess. I'm extremely pleased with all the work performed by Cool's Custom Remodeling. I'd use them again when the need arises and would highly recommend them without hesitation.

Cools Custom has now completed 3 jobs and finishing a 4th. They have done an excellent, quality, fairly priced remodels in the following areas. 1- Master Bedroom 2- High-tech Kitchen 3- Front Entry and adjoining bathroom 4- Master Bathroom - now under construction These jobs total in excess of $150,000 Jay (owner of Cools Custom) and team have done an outstanding job dealing with a home built in the 1970s with ceilings reaching 25'. Jay quoted each project as best he could, but of course, you always run into 'unexpected' things e.g. pipes and electrical in usual places.
Each 'unexpected thing' that arose, we discussed and completed a 'change order' outlining additional work required and cost. Jay was fair dealing with each situation and additional expense. Note: I have read other reviews whereby homeowners expect a bid to remain 'as is' regardless of what the contractor runs into. This is unfair to the contractor. Jay and I discussed each situation and I remained very satisfied with the results even though there was additional expense due to 'unexpected things'. Overall, the experience, work and attention to detail has been outstanding and. they clean-up each day.
All jobs have been completed on-time. Also, I felt completely comfortable leaving my home open during the day with Jay's crew even when I was not present. If you are seeking the cheapest price, don't use Cools. If you are seeking a quality, first rate job at a fair price (not highest and not lowest), you should consider Cool's Custom.

Similar to Joie P's experience, the final results were nice, but working with the owner was very trying. He is not a particularly good communicator and was not very "present" on the job. It's a good thing that his sub-contractors, for the most part, are reliable. We had billing issues, and tile issues, and lighting issues that took too long to resolve. While we are happy with the kitchen, it came in way over budget and was a painful experience.

I had a complete bathroom remodel (as well as some kitchen repairs) done by Cool's Custom. The result is beautiful, at a very fair price. The quality of the work is exceptional. The work crews were courteous and professional - they arrived on time, worked quickly, and did a great job of cleanup as each phase was completed. The owner, Jay Cool, was very clear about explaining options and choices, and even advising on color combinations. I highly recommend Cool's Custom.

Update from Kathy A. to Mr. Jay Cool sorry I couldn't get back to you when you phoned and yes you did leave a message to follow up and make the corrections, however I don't think that you realize how upset that I was regarding the water pipe issue and the arguing that insued with Paul. I WAS PISSED OFF! Yes we had issues and you knew of the design and that was NOT changed other then it was offset instead of center.
All is said and done my bathroom is beautiful and the color works and this is the first time I heard about that you would redo the paint at no cost. Was I present when this was mentioned? The only issue I had with Cools Custom is having to argue and being patronized by Paul. I have yet to use the shower but it is beautiful thanks to the great tile work from Noe and Manuel and the beautiful material choices that I purchased. I really felt that the service from Jay was excellent as well! I think I should cool down first before writing a review next time.

I had about three other bids for a tile floor replacement in Kitchen/dining room and an adjoining half-bath. I received Cools's reference from a respected construction person I know. I was a great reference. Jay's bid was in the lower-middle of my other bids. However, what sold us was Jay's warm and personal nature. He took the time to answer all our questions and go over all the details BEFORE we agreed to go with Cool's.
Once we signed, he ordered the tile and we scheduled the work. Day 1 was great. Noji and a helper showed up on time and removed all the old tile and kept dirt to a minimum (big plus) :-) The second day was to be planed to lay tile. HOWEVER, the people at Towne Tile (Ryan and Scott) dropped the ball. They said wrong tile was sent and no one bothered to check the order till Jay Cools's guys showed up to pick the tile (we ordered the tile 2 weeks ago with only needing 3-4 days delivery. Anyway, after loosing Friday to the tile order, Jay's guys came back Saturday and Monday, Tuesday to finish the job. Jay kept his "cool" as he had to arrange to have guys come different days due to the mix up in the tile order. Noji and Jessie came Monday and made major progress and covered the remaining 200+ sq foot (total job was 325sq feet. Tuesday is going to be spent grouting and placing the appliances back and setting the toilet.

Terrible terrible customer service. Not Custom at all. Too bad management can't figure out what's going on because the workers were actually very good. The Demo guys, the Tile Guy, the Paint guy and Paul the project manger were very professional, helpful and accommodating. However the headache of working with the top dog (Jay) was ridiculous.
The job was being rushed through and there was a complete lack of communication as to what had been ordered and what was going to be installed. At the end of it all he wanted more money! Terrible.
